Jodi VanGundy, MD

Dr. VanGundy graduated from Grinnell College with a bachelor's degree in biological chemistry in 2009.  From there she went to the University of Kansas School of Medicine to earn her M.D. During her time there, she was the president of the Care for Kids program, orchestrating and planning events for fellow medical students to spend time with the children on the pediatric inpatient unit. She was also an active volunteer at the JayDoc Free Health Clinic as well the Women's Healthcare Nights.

After graduating from medical school with a sweet 15 month old baby girl in tow, Dr. VanGundy became a pediatric resident at the Children's Mercy Hospital here in Kansas City.  She graduated in July 2018 and is a Board-Certified Pediatrician.

Education

Dr. VanGundy is so excited to start her journey with direct primary care!  This model could not fit her personality any better! Direct primary care allows her to provide personalized care that is based on a doctor-patient relationship full of trust, compassion, and understanding.  Practicing this style of pediatric medicine allows her to partner with families in a way that provides the very best care for their children.  She loves being able to give her patients the time and focus they deserve, while also being present as a wife and mother for her young children.

Choosing Direct Primary Care

Dr. VanGundy lives in Kansas City with her husband, John, and 4 children, Stella (8), James (4), and twins, Jack and Scarlett (21 months).  In addition to providing exceptional care to her patients, she coaches her daughters competitive basketball team, de-stresses with exercise, loves to sing, cooks/bakes, and she loves going on adventure dates with her husband!

Being a wife, mother, and pediatrician are the three things that bring her the most joy!  Being able to provide 24/7 care to her patients by giving advice, reassurance, triaging and managing their ill symptoms, and giving step by step guidance, is so rewarding! Watching her patients learn, grow, be successful in their endeavors, and trust her with their concerns/questions is what drives her. Being from rural Kansas, she loves being able to bring the "doctor in the small town" vibe to the city!  The relationships she strives to make with her patients and families is rare in today's world of medicine. She is able to do this while balancing motherhood and life's daily grind--it cannot get any better than that!
